The 582nd and final daily post on this blog - thank you for visiting

Hi. What you typically would see in this space Monday through Friday is a rundown of four to five sports stories that have caught my attention, along with my thoughts on them. Today I'm afraid things are different. I've come to the conclusion I have to end my daily presence on the blog.

If you look at the times on the posts I've made, you'll notice they typically come at all hours of the night. Normally my wife goes to bed and then I stay up and work on preparing my show for the next day while writing some of that up for the blog. Yesterday my wife let me know she's tired of it being that way. As a result, I've made the decision you're reading about right now.

I first started the blog in May 2008 as a way to maintain the connection with my Gainesville radio audience. When I left town I had the top rated sports show in the city by a wide margin. If you're one of those original readers, please know again how much I appreciated both that and your continued interest in anything I've had to say.

What's been interesting is to see how the blog's readership has grown. The tracking stats have shown visitors from almost every state in the US, plus some other countries. I've never mentioned the existence of the blog once on my Columbia radio show, but somewhere along the way a fairly good sized number of people here have found it and chosen to read it too. Stuff written on this blog turned up in the Las Vegas Sun, St Pete Times and Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Wherever you are and however this came to your attention, I want to extend my thanks for your decision to visit as well.

As I mentioned earlier, I'm no longer going to post daily items on the blog. That doesn't mean it will go completely dark. While I'm still not crazy about the Twitter phenomenon, it does make it easy to communicate with anyone who's interested in doing so. I'll continue to be a regular presence there - to read my feed, go to twitter.com/heathradio and you'll be able to see what's on my mind and give me any feedback you wish to if you have a Twitter account.

When there are times I want to write a longer form post not reacting to daily news - for example, about the Heisman Trophy vote - I will still do so and post it here. To this point I have never sent out any messages about the blog on Twitter. Now, when I do write a post, I'll announce it there and send the link out in case you want to come read it. Once again, thank you for your time these past few years. I hope you'll choose to stay in touch with me through the new means to do so.

I am sorry to see that there will no longer be a daily blog. It was one of the first things I checked out during the week. Thanks for doing it the past few years.

Thanks Heath, your blog was a daily destination of mine. Will miss you here...

Heath, reading your blog was the first thing I did every morning when I got to my office. I am really going to miss that, but a happy wife makes for a happy life. I also still miss you on the radio in Gainesville, the others just aren't the same my friend.

I was a listener of your show here in Gainesville and I too have read your blog daily. Good information and entertaining insight so I'll miss it. I follow you on twitter though, so I've got that going for me. Thanks for doing what you do, and go get some sleep!

Heath,
Your show was the first sports talk show i ever listened to. I really enjoyed listening from 11-1 on the star. I have read your blog every day since you left gainesville, and i have enjoyed it daily.
I now reside in Jacksonville, but when i left gainesville the star definatly did not replace you with any talent.
Thank you.
Jacob

I've been expecting this for a little while now. I guess I should have figured all along that this blog was just an elaborate form of social protest that would come to an end once Dan Hawkins was fired.

In all seriousness, thanks for the hard work and late nights you spent putting this blog together. Obviously you had little to gain personally by devoting yourself to the blog, but your efforts were appreciated by many. This is the only blog (sports or otherwise) that I read, and it's been a pleasure reading insightful and intelligent sports commentary. I have yet to find anyone who really even comes close to discussing sports with the same level of knowledge and professionalism.

Kudos to your wife as well. I think the only reason she put up with it for so long was because she felt guilty for us having been left with that clown who followed you in Gainesville (Terry something?) I guess she figured 2+ years of blogging was finally enough to atone for that 2 and a half weeks of dead air. All the best to you in your personal and professional endeavors.

Heath,

Thank you for running this blog! Like others have said, reading it was almost always the first thing I did every morning. I appreciate your insight, just as I did when I listened to your show in Ocala. Sports radio hasn't been the same here since you left. I'll continue to follow you on Twitter. Best of luck to you. You will be missed!

This saddens us all at TGB, Heath. You're the last voice of reason on the internet... you will be missed.

Heath,

I've been reading your blog daily since a found out about it a few short months ago (great stuff!!).... Now you're shutting it down. Thanks for nothing. I'm guessing you'll be in Gainesville this weekend for the game. Hopefully you can stop by the tailgate for a visit (we're in the same spot). Good luck to you.

Gonna miss the daily blog Heath. Glad to hear you're career and personal life are going great places. Still miss your radio show down here in GNV. We'll have to check the tweets now. Keep up the good work!

Heath,
Sorry to learn this but as a fellow Tampa Bay area transplant, I echo the sentiments of the others. I'm fortunate to be in Columbia and certainly will continue enjoying your radio show.

Heath,

I must echo that your blog was required reading. Now how am I supposed to make people think that I am so knowlegable about sports?

I'm holding out hope that we could get your program simulcast in Gainesville, or on sirius/xm. I already follow you on the Twitter, so I will look forward to your Tweets.

Definitely a bummer, but I get it for sure. I would often check in for my daily read and notice the time it was posted and think "This guy is an animal!". Thanks for the almost 600 posts and I will keep up on Twitter.

Just want to leave a note and say I'm missing the blog. There are probably others like me who don't usually post much but read a lot.

Loved hearing you on the Larry Vettel show last week.

Sorry to hear that, Heath.

Love the radio show you have on 107.5 though!
